Help for Anxiety, Worry, and Fear

Engaging Mindfully in Our Lives

Anxiety is one of the most common problems in America. More than 19 million Americans suffer from anxiety-based problems, like generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Although anyone can feel worried or anxious, these problems can seriously restrict our lives. Tragically, many of the ways we try to cope with our anxiety actually make our fears worse and our world smaller. At Integrative Health Partners, we want to help you get back into your life with our effective and proven mindfulness-based therapy.

Mindfulness is a process of making direct contact with the present moment. It has always been a source of healing and personal growth, and in the thirty years since the introduction of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), mindfulness based psychotherapy has been validated by a large body of psychological research. In addition to learning how to calm our anxieties, mindfulness helps us understand what is really important to us, and gives us the insight and tools to get through our fears and into our lives.

One of our integrative psychotherapies is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This evidence-based treatment draws heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness traditions. Effective with a wide range of problems, ACT helps people actualize the deep values that make for a worthwhile life, using the resources of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral science, and neurobiology. Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is another counseling approach that we have found widely useful.

What is Mindfulness-based Therapy?

Almost every issue that brings people to therapy - anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and stress - is complicated by living too much in the past or the future, full of regret, worry, and difficult emotions. Our understandable efforts to control or avoid difficult experiences will often increase our suffering rather than relieve it. Mindfulness, by keeping us in touch with the here and now, creates a healthy alternative to our ruminations and automatic thinking. It gives us a chance to bring kindness and acceptance to our challenges, and to take a new perspective on them. With the stability that comes from mindfulness, we can learn to make a truly helpful response to our problems.
